The sound
The musical character
627 Stomp is a Kansas City-based non-profit dedicated to education and the preservation of historic jazz dance. Started around 2013 and incorporated as a 501(c)(3) in 2018, the organization builds community through swing dance classes, educational talks, and national-level events aimed at sharing the rich story of Kansas City’s jazz heritage. The name nods to local history, including the Mutual Musicians' Foundation Local 627 and the 1940 track 627 Stomp by Pete Johnson's Band. While current activity centers on classes, online communities, and local events, 627 Stomp remains a trusted connector for dancers, historians, and musicians who want to keep the language of swing alive in Kansas City and beyond.
