Roy McCurdy, a Rochester, NY native, is a celebrated jazz drummer whose career took flight after joining Cannonball Adderley’s Quintet in 1965. He remained with the group until Cannonball Adderley’s passing in 1975, contributing to some of jazz’s enduring classics. In 2025, McCurdy continued to perform live across California, bringing his vital history and dynamic groove to venues like Sam First in Los Angeles and The Merc in Temecula. He also appeared in LA-area and statewide jazz events, including a notable presentation at LACMA in September 2025. As an adjunct professor at USC Thornton School of Music and a former instructor at Pasadena Conservatory of Music, McCurdy has mentored a new generation of jazz musicians. He was inducted into the Rochester Music Hall of Fame in 2020, cementing his status as a pillar of American jazz.
