Afropunk Festival is more than a music event—it's a global cultural movement that began from the 2003 Afro-Punk documentary and evolved into a worldwide platform for bold, boundary-pushing artists. Co-founded in 2005 by James Spooner and Matthew Morgan, with Jocelyn Cooper joining in 2009, Afropunk has grown from a Brooklyn-born label of independence into international showcases in cities like Atlanta, London, Paris, Johannesburg, Salvador, Dakar, and beyond. Brooklyn remains the brand’s home base, where the festival concept remains rooted in community, creativity, and authenticity.
