Alexandra Leigh Winston, known professionally as Alex Winston, is a Michigan-born, classically trained singer who forged a distinctive path in indie pop. Born on September 28, 1987 in Bloomfield Hills, she grew up mastering opera voice while teaching herself guitar and piano. Her move to New York City in 2010 opened doors to collaborations with The Knocks and the release of The Basement Covers EP on Heavy Roc Music, earning early UK praise that compared her to Kate Bush and Joanna Newsom. Winston’s 2012 debut album King Con, produced by Charlie Hugall, Björn Yttling, and The Knocks, established her as a compelling voice in alternative pop. After releasing The Day I Died EP in 2015 on 300 Entertainment, she explored new creative avenues with the pop duo Post Precious alongside Max Hershenow (MS MR) in 2017–2018. In 2024, she returned with Bingo! on Rat Rizzo Records, debuting a country-tinged indie sound on the lead single Stassia and continuing to draw critical attention with tracks like Hot One and Swampland. Fans have watched her evolve across projects while maintaining a strong presence, including a 10-year King Con vinyl re-press around 2022.
