Alexei Lubimov is a distinguished Russian pianist, fortepianist, and harpsichordist whose career has shaped modern historical performance. Born September 16, 1944, in Moscow, Lubimov helped found the Moscow Baroque Quartet and the Moscow Chamber Academy, and played a pivotal role in establishing the Alternativa festival. He has championed performances on fortepiano and other early keyboard instruments since the late 20th century, notably initiating Mozart fortepiano cycles that began in 1990. An esteemed ECM Records artist, Lubimov’s discography spans from Der Bote (2002) to Tangere (2017) and beyond, highlighting a lifelong dedication to intimate, stylistically informed music-making.
