Alice Randall is a trailblazing writer and performer whose work spans country music, literature, and cultural storytelling. She co-wrote Trisha Yearwood’s 1994 #1 country hit XXX’s and OOO’s (An American Girl), making her the first Black woman credited as a co-writer on a country No. 1. Randall also wrote the Reba McEntire video Is There Life Out There, which won ACM Video of the Year in 1992. Beyond music, she’s a New York Times–bestselling author of The Wind Done Gone (2001) and Soul Food Love (with her daughter Caroline Randall Williams), the latter winning an NAACP Image Award. Her 2024 companion album, My Black Country: The Songs of Alice Randall, features Black female artists reinterpreting her songs.
