Born in Abidjan into a Malinke griot lineage, Aly Keita is a master balafon player, instrument maker, and a relentless explorer of sound. Trained in the long tradition of West African storytelling, he merges heritage with contemporary jazz and world music textures. As a recipient of the German Jazz Prize (Special Instruments, 2022) and the World Music Creole prize (2009, Germany), Keita stands as a bridge between cultures, languages, and rhythms. His discography spans solo projects, intimate trios, and collaborative ensembles, with a prolific output from 2000 to 2026. In 2026, he released Balafon Evolution with One World Records, a landmark exploration of the balafon’s evolving voice.
