American Wrestlers is a rootsy, lo-fi indie project that began in 2014 in St. Louis as a Gary McClure solo endeavor before expanding into a four-piece lineup. The band's sound blends intimate, guitar-forward arrangements with earnest vocal storytelling, earning early acclaim as a Band To Watch and Best New Bands of 2015 from Stereogum and a featured review on Pitchfork for their self-released debut. Since then, American Wrestlers has continued to release music with Fat Possum Records, releasing Goodbye Terrible Youth in 2016 and keeping a devoted following on Bandcamp and major streaming services.
