Joyce Yang is a distinguished American pianist renowned for her poetic, color-saturated playing and a repertoire spanning Beethoven to contemporary works. Born in Seoul on April 11, 1986, she moved to the United States in 1997 to study at Juilliard, rising to international prominence as the youngest finalist at the 2005 Van Cliburn Competition, where she earned the silver medal and awards for chamber music and new works. Over the years, Yang has been recognized with the Avery Fisher Career Grant (2010) and a Grammy nomination for Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance (2010) alongside Augustin Hadelich. A frequent collaborator with major orchestras and a champion of new music, Yang’s performances are noted for their lyrical nuance and vibrant texture.
