Anchorage Opera is Alaska’s longstanding home for professional opera, founded in 1962 by Marita Farrell and Evangeline Atwood. Known for its community-focused mission—creating, educating, and engaging audiences through opera and related events—Anchorage Opera champions local talent and in-house production capabilities under the motto "made in Alaska." Based in Anchorage, performances take place at the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts, including Atwood Concert Hall, Discovery Theatre, and Sydney Laurence Theatre. The company has earned national recognition, including a nod from the National Endowment for the Arts as one of six most promising American opera companies and membership in OPERA America.
