Ancient Mbrira Music of Zimbabwe brings the deep roots of traditional Shona mbira into the present. Led by Samaita Vitalis Botsa, born in 1963 in Muzanenhamo-Gavaza, Murehwa, this ensembles' sound is built on decades of practice, performance, and teaching. Botsa began learning mbira in 1977, performing at major ceremonies across Zimbabwe, and today shares his craft through workshops at the Chidiya School near his village. A long-time collaborator of Forward Kwenda, Botsa has toured the United States since 2015 and contributed to MBIRA’s catalog with 11 albums. The group anchors interlocking kushaura/kutsinhira parts with traditional mavembe (gandanga) tunings, delivering music steeped in ancestral-spirit ceremony roots.
