Andre Watts (June 20, 1946 – July 12, 2023) was a revered American pianist known for his luminous interpretations of Liszt, Chopin, and Romantic masterpieces, as well as his crossover ventures with Liszt–Gershwin programming. A child prodigy who rose to international prominence after performing with the New York Philharmonic under Leonard Bernstein at age 16, Watts’ career spanned decades of recording, teaching, and performing. Though he passed away in 2023, his influence continues through his recordings and the generations of students he mentored, notably at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music.
