Antarctic Symphony is the nickname for Peter Maxwell Davies' Symphony No. 8, a large-scale orchestral work completed in 2000. Commissioned by the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) and the Philharmonia Orchestra, it premiered on 6 May 2001 at Royal Festival Hall under the composer’s baton. Conceptually positioned as a sequel to Vaughan Williams' Sinfonia Antartica, the piece has been staged with Antarctic imagery and multimedia elements to evoke polar landscapes and exploration.
