Appalachian Spring is a timeless American masterwork, originally choreographed by Martha Graham to a score by Aaron Copland. Premiered in 1944, the piece earned international acclaim and a Pulitzer Prize for Music in 1945. Celebrated for its expansive American pastoral idiom and the Shaker tune Simple Gifts, the work remains a pillar of the concert repertoire. Contemporary ensembles bring fresh interpretations to Copland’s melodies and motifs.
