Aquila Theatre Company is a dynamic force in classical theatre, bringing Shakespeare, Greek drama, and related adaptations to audiences across the United States. Founded in London in 1991 by Peter Meineck and relocated to the U.S. in 1994, Aquila became a U.S. non-profit in 1998. Since 2012, Desiree Sanchez Meineck has served as artistic director, guiding the company’s mission to make classical works accessible, engaging, and immediate for contemporary audiences. With a robust touring schedule that reaches roughly 50–60 American cities each year, Aquila blends rigorous scholarship with bold performance choices to illuminate timeless stories.
