Arien Wilkerson is a dynamic multidisciplinary artist, choreographer, and founder/artistic director of TNMOT AZTRO. Their work spans dance, film, installation, sculpture, and sound design, creating immersive Black queer performance practices that challenge conventional stage narratives. Based in and connected to the cultural energy of New York and beyond, Arien engages with museums, universities, and galleries to present bold, reflective works that invite audiences into expansive, sensory experiences.

Wilkerson’s practice emphasizes collective embodiment, memory, and the politics of perception, often merging live performance with media installations to explore identity, community, and futurity. As a curator and collaborator, Arien fosters spaces where Black aesthetics and experimental form intersect, inviting broader audiences to witness nuanced storytelling through movement and sound.

Highlights of Arien Wilkerson’s career include prestigious awards such as the NEA Big Read Grant (2018), the William Caspar Graustein Memorial Fund award (2018), and the NEFA Rebecca Blunk Fund Awardee (2018).
