Art of Cool Festival Tickets

The Art of Cool Festival began in Durham in 2014, founded by Cicely Mitchell and Al Strong IV to blend jazz with hip-hop and modern soul. What started as a citywide multi-venue experience grew into a nationally recognized platform for cross-genre collaboration, featuring two outdoor stages and five indoor venues and delivering 30+ performances across Durham's vibrant music scene.

Originally a cornerstone of Durham’s cultural calendar, Art of Cool evolved into a multi-day celebration that showcased a spectrum of voices—from jazz luminaries to contemporary hip-hop and R&B artists. In 2018, the festival was sold to the DOME Group, and the last installment occurred in 2019. As of 2025, Art of Cool has not resumed its annual festival schedule, but its spirit of collaboration continues to influence Durham’s music landscape.

In 2025, a new chapter emerges with Missy Lane's Block Party, announced as a one-day festival on October 4, 2025, in downtown Durham on East Main Street (300 block). Produced by Cicely Mitchell and Chief Adjuah, the event carries forward Art of Cool’s legacy of diverse, cross-genre performance, featuring headliners such as Chief Adjuah, Bilal, and Butcher Brown among others.
