Since its founding in 2012 by Toni Simmons Henson and Wanda Simmons, the Atlanta Black Theatre Festival (ABTF) has become a premier platform for Black artists to self-produce and present work. ABTF shines a spotlight on Afro-diasporic theatre—featuring plays, readings, and related performances that celebrate storytelling, resilience, and community. Over the years, ABTF has hosted more than 3,200 artists and 160 self-producing playwrights across hundreds of events, earning recognition as a top theatre festival to visit worldwide. ABTF’s dynamic programming extends through ABTF Travels, offering international arts experiences and cultural journeys.
