Austin Chanu is a Los Angeles–based conductor, composer, and woodwind performer celebrated for his dynamic leadership and contributions to modern orchestral music. With degrees from USC and Eastman School of Music, he’s built a reputation for thoughtful programming, precise conducting, and a commitment to reviving and preserving important American works.

From his early training in music composition to his doctoral work in orchestral conducting, Chanu has combined technical mastery with expressive storytelling. He has earned recognition from prestigious organizations, including multiple Solti Foundation U.S. Career Assistance Awards, and has distinguished himself in international competitions, earning prizes and fellowships that supported his rapid ascent in the orchestral world.

Looking ahead, Austin Chanu is slated to make notable debuts and performances with major ensembles around the world. In 2025–26, he will debut with The Syracuse Orchestra, the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Johns Creek Symphony Orchestra. His 2025 schedule includes appearances with The Philadelphia Orchestra Brass and Bash and a program featuring Still’s Wood Notes across Marian Anderson Hall and Carnegie Hall.

Chanu’s discography highlights a published composition, 30 break 30, premiered in 2021 by the Eastman School of Music Symphony Orchestra. His ongoing projects emphasize collaboration, education, and the revival of historically important works, including efforts with the William Grant Still repertoire during his tenure with The Philadelphia Orchestra (Assistant Conductor, 2021–2024).
