Axline Lecture is an esteemed annual lecture series presented since around 2000 by the San Diego Museum of Art (SDMA) and the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) in honor of Jackie and Rea Axline. Known for bringing leading photographers and visual artists to the San Diego community, the program combines thoughtful dialogue with accessible public programming. Past speakers include renowned figures such as Catherine Opie (2017), Sebastião Salgado (2016), Alfredo Jaar (2014), Charles Ray (2013), Annabelle Selldorf (2021), Ana de Alvear (2020), Trevor Paglen (2019), and Sergio Hernández (2022). Events are typically hosted at SDMA/MCASD campuses in Balboa Park, with occasional virtual components to reach a broader audience. Tickets are available to museum members and the public as part of the lecture series, making it easy to secure your seats for insightful conversations about art, culture, and society.
