Azar Lawrence is a distinguished jazz saxophonist and composer whose career spans from pioneering collaborations with giants to leading his own creative projects. From early roles with the Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra to sessions with Earth, Wind & Fire and Marvin Gaye, Azar has built a reputation for expressive tone, adventurous harmonies, and a deep commitment to the jazz tradition. In the 1970s, he emerged as a defining voice on three seminal Prestige albums as a leader: Bridge into the New Age (1974), Summer Solstice (1975), and People Moving (1976). His ongoing work through the 2010s and 2020s includes Elementals (2018) and New Sky (2022), with continued activity in 2025–2026 through The Azar Lawrence Experience (TALE) and collaborative projects with McCoy Tyner Legends. Based in the United States with frequent international touring, Azar’s artistry resonates across audiences worldwide.
