The Azusa Pacific Cougars Football program embarked on a historic journey, competing for 55 seasons before stepping away in December 2020. In March 2025, APU announced the plan to revive the program, with a re-entry into NCAA Division III through the SCIAC (Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference). The revival aligns with a continued commitment to competitive athletics, community engagement, and student-athlete development. The Cougars previously claimed the 1998 NAIA national championship and secured GNAC conference titles in 2013, 2014, 2016, and 2018 (co-champions in 2018). The team historically hosted games at Citrus Stadium and will re-enter the collegiate landscape under SCIAC/DIII guidelines.
