Bach Christmas Oratorio is a monumental vocal-instrumental cycle that centers on the Christmas narrative, blending sacred text with congregational chorales. Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach in 1723–24 in Leipzig, the complete sextet of cantatas (BWV 248 I–VI) is performed across the Christmas season and Epiphany: Christmas Day, the Second and Third Christmas Days, New Year’s Day, the Sunday after New Year’s, and Epiphany. The music weaves recitatives, arias, chorales and biblical narration for a dramatic, devotional experience. This performer page highlights the work’s rich history, acclaimed recordings, and upcoming tour dates across the United States and beyond.
