Founded in 2008 by Suzanne Lownsbury and Janina Michalski, Ballet Virginia is Coastal Virginia’s premier ballet academy and company. With a professional company and BVII (the second company), Ballet Virginia offers a robust season of classic and contemporary ballet across Norfolk and Virginia Beach. The company trains locally, performs with a live symphonic orchestra for its Nutcracker, and provides opportunities for dancers to grow through BVII’s focused repertoire.

BVII serves as Ballet Virginia’s second company, offering training and performance experience that helps bridge student technique and professional performance. Based in Norfolk and Virginia Beach, Ballet Virginia presents a curated mix of full-length ballets, family-friendly matinees, and adventurous new works across regional stages.

Venue highlights include Zeiders American Dream Theater in Virginia Beach, The Sandler Center for the Performing Arts in Norfolk, and The Attucks Theatre. Each venue brings its own distinctive historic ambiance to Ballet Virginia’s productions, from intimate matinees to grand performances with live orchestral accompaniment.
