Ballethnic Dance Company is a trailblazing Black-led professional ballet company founded in Atlanta, Georgia, on January 15, 1990 by Nena Gilreath and Waverly T. Lucas II. Recognized as one of the first Black-led professional ballet companies in the Southern United States, Ballethnic blends classical ballet with African dance concepts, jazz, and modern influences to create dynamic, culturally rich performances. The company supports a broad community footprint through the Ballethnic Academy of Dance and numerous youth programs, helping nurture the next generation of dancers and audiences alike.
