Barry Sanders, born July 16, 1968 in Wichita, Kansas, is a legendary figure in football and a celebrated performer in the sports world. A college star at Oklahoma State, he claimed the Heisman Trophy in 1988 and went on to a Hall of Fame NFL career with the Detroit Lions from 1989 to 1998. Sanders rushed for 15,269 yards and 99 rushing touchdowns, earning the NFL MVP title in 1997 as a co-winner with Brett Favre. The Lions retired his No. 20 jersey in 2004, and he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame that same year.
