Ben Wendel is a Grammy-nominated saxophonist and composer whose artistry spans bold solo work, dynamic group projects, and high-profile collaborations. As co-founder of Kneebody, he helped redefine modern jazz with a genre-blending sensibility that crosses contemporary classical textures, electronic-inflected soundscapes, and playful improvisation. The Seasons project, which began with monthly duo videos, evolved into full-band arrangements showcased on the 2018 studio album The Seasons (Motéma). His live recording Understory: Live at the Village Vanguard (2024, Edition Records) captures his quartet with Gerald Clayton, Linda May Han Oh, and Obed Calvaire, extending his influential catalog. In 2023, All One (Edition Records) brought together a host of guests—Bill Frisell, Cécile McLorin Salvant, Terence Blanchard, Elena Pinderhughes, Tigran Hamasyan—demonstrating his collaborative breadth. With High Heart (2020) and BaRcoDe, his ongoing ensembles explore personal statements and vibrant ensemble textures. BaRcoDe, featuring vibraphone specialists, marked a 2025 Jazz Gallery engagement as part of a 30th Anniversary celebration, with a new album anticipated in 2026 on Edition Records. Ben’s Seasons Band and related ensembles continue to perform widely, including a 2025 NYC Jazz Gallery residency and robust social-media activity.
