The Benedetti Elschenbroich Grynyuk Trio formed when three leading figures in contemporary classical music joined forces to explore the deep, communicative potential of the piano trio medium. Nicola Benedetti, renowned for her lyrical tone and technical mastery on violin, joins forces with cellist Leonard Elschenbroich and pianist Alexei Grynyuk. Their collaborative chemistry brings a refined balance of melodic line, harmonic texture, and energetic dialogue to every performance. Since their debut in the 2009/10 season, they have toured extensively across Europe, North America, and Asia, delivering compelling interpretations of canonical repertoire and living composers alike.
The trio’s repertoire spans the great triadic works of Schubert, Brahms, and Tchaikovsky, as well as contemporary pieces that push the boundaries of form and timbre. A landmark collaboration is Arlene Sierra’s Butterflies Remember a Mountain, commissioned specifically for the trio in 2013, which has since been recorded as part of Sierra’s discography on Bridge Records (Butterflies Remember a Mountain, Vol. 3, 2018). This project epitomizes their approach: a seamless blend of technical precision, expressive depth, and a willingness to engage with new music on its own terms.
While public 2025 tour dates may not be listed, the trio continues to perform at leading venues and festival stages, with recent activity in the US and Europe during 2022–2023. The ensemble remains a vibrant force in chamber music, inviting listeners into a collaborative conversation among three artists who bring distinct voice, curiosity, and precision to the stage.
