Born in Oxford in 1995, Baigent has rapidly established himself on the international classical scene with a blend of cutting-edge programming and period-informed interpretation. He studied at Jesus College, Cambridge and earned his MA from the Royal Academy of Music in 2018. Since then, he’s been shaping performances worldwide as a conductor, educator, and creative collaborator.

Baigent is known for his engaging leadership at the Waterperry Opera Festival, where he has served as Music Director since 2017. His career blossomed with a decisive breakthrough at the International Conducting Competition Rotterdam 2022, where he won the Grand Prix, Classical Prize, and Symphonic Prize, later joining the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra as assistant conductor. His Glyndebourne Festival debut in 2023 marked the beginning of ongoing appearances at one of the UK’s premier opera stages. Whether conducting contemporary commissions, opera repertory, or historically informed performances, Baigent brings clarity, expressive depth, and a forward-looking perspective to every project.

In the 2024/25 season, Baigent is set to debut with major ensembles including the Gulbenkian Orchestra in Lisbon, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence, and the Osaka Philharmonic. The 2025/26 season will see further debuts with Liège and Luxembourg ensembles, complemented by returns to Glyndebourne and Opera Holland Park. His discography features early compositions, including the organ work Bright spark, shot from a brighter place (2015, Jubal), illustrating his breadth as a composer and performer.
