Formed in 1994 in Dakar by brothers Moctar, Baidy, and Ibrahim Sall, Bideew Bou Bess rose to prominence after winning a national competition in 1996. Fusing mbalax with hip-hop and Afro-urban influences, they sing in Wolof, French, and English. Their international breakthrough came with the 2003 album Original, released on Issap Productions, and they’ve continued evolving through Ndoumbélane (2012) to the recent 1 Samba (released November 10, 2025 on Gelongal). The group’s dynamic sound and live energy have earned them a global following and a Kora Award for Best African Group in 2001.
