Big Mother Gig formed in Milwaukee in 1992, gaining early attention with LPs like My Social Commentary (1993) and Smiling Politely (1996). After reuniting in 2016, they released Quintessentially Average: 92-96 (2016) and the EP Almost Primed (2017). The 2018 LP No More Questions features collaborations with Dicky Barrett of the Mighty Mighty Bosstones and Britta Phillips of Luna, released on Sweet Sweet Records. Their 2021 LP Gusto was described as a recovery-themed record and includes The Underdog, featuring Leah Wellbaum of Slothrust, on the track of the same name, under the Fraga Sweet Sweet label. In late 2024, the band announced they were ending as Big Mother Gig and continuing as Long A, a duo led by Richard Jankovich and Albert Kurniawan. Long A released It’s About To Start (LP) on July 11, 2025, and actively promotes tours for 2025–2026. You’ll find official updates and tour details on their site, with social links below.
