Big Red Rooster emerged from the Dallas-area scene in the mid-2000s, formed by SMU students including Andrew Meals, Ted Lauck, and Phillip Griffin. Known for fusing party-rock energy with rap-influenced rock, they made waves in Deep Ellum and local venues, receiving early press attention from 2006 through 2009. The band is celebrated for its DIY approach, self-releasing material and earning recognition as a Next Big Thing in local media.
