Meet Billy Harper, a defining voice in post-bop and conscious jazz with a career spanning more than five decades. Born January 17, 1943, in Houston, Texas, Harper built enduring connections with jazz greats like Art Blakey, Max Roach, Gil Evans, Thad Jones/Mel Lewis, and Lee Morgan. His debut album Capra Black (1973) helped crystallize his distinctive approach to jazz composition and improvisation. Today, Harper continues to perform with the Billy Harper Quintet and collaborates on exciting projects with leading labels and fellow artists.
