Black Art Jazz Collective was founded in 2013 by a core trio of leaders: saxophonist Wayne Escoffery, trumpeter Jeremy Pelt, and drummer Johnathan Blake. The ensemble has grown into a tight-knit sextet dedicated to celebrating Black culture through original compositions and arrangements. BAJC’s sound sits at the crossroads of post-bop and hard bop, weaving intricate counterpoint, melodic lines, and rhythmic drive with thematic storytelling that honors Black icons and histories. The band’s lineup includes esteemed musicians known for their virtuosic clarity and expressive depth, making BAJC a mainstay on the international jazz circuit.
