Black Grape, the Britpop-rooted project fronted by Shaun Ryder, burst onto the UK scene in the mid-1990s with a distinct blend of funk, hip-hop, and psychedelia. Their debut album, It’s Great When You’re Straight...Yeah, topped the UK Albums Chart in 1995 and earned Platinum status in the UK. The follow-up, Stupid Stupid Stupid (1997), hit Gold in the UK, cementing their place in the era’s musical landscape. After a long hiatus, the band returned with Pop Voodoo in 2017, produced by Youth, marking the first new material in ~20 years. In 2023–2024, Orange Head circulated with singles like Milk and Dirt, continuing the Black Grape story. In 2025, a UK tour was announced to celebrate the 30th anniversary of It’s Great When You’re Straight...Yeah, with dates across major cities from Glasgow to Manchester. The band mourned the loss of drummer Wags in March 2025, a significant moment in their ongoing journey.
