Blind Injustice emerged from a powerful collaboration with composer Scott Davenport Richards and librettist David Cote, drawing inspiration from Mark Godsey’s Blind Injustice and the Ohio Innocence Project’s casework. The work combines a 12-piece orchestra with a fusion-driven soundscape that sits at the crossroads of jazz, rock, hip-hop, blues, and gospel. A significant portion of the librettos features direct quotes from exonerees, preserving voices that demand to be heard on stage. The world premiere took place at Cincinnati Opera in 2019, marking a bold entry into contemporary opera with a documentary edge and musical breadth.

The 2021 live recording of the world premiere was released as a CD/digital album by Fanfare Cincinnati and earned recognition from Opera News as one of the 5 Best New Opera Recordings of 2022. Blind Injustice has since expanded to major engagements, including a 2025 New York run by MasterVoices at Rose Theater, Jazz at Lincoln Center, and a Northeast Ohio premiere by Chagrin Arts at Playhouse Square’s Outcalt Theatre in Cleveland in July 2025, with several performances selling out.
