Book of Mountains and Seas Tickets

Book of Mountains and Seas is a bold, cross-genre performance project created by composer-librettist Huang Ruo and director-designer Basil Twist. The work blends opera, theatre, and dance with a unique concept called dimensionalism, weaving together Chinese and Western idioms to produce a richly textured soundscape. Featuring the vocal ensemble Ars Nova Copenhagen, this collaboration has earned recognition for pushing the boundaries of contemporary performance while staying deeply musical and emotionally engaging.

Huang Ruo is a composer celebrated for his wide-ranging output across opera, theatre, and concert works. His innovative approach has earned him the 2024 Herb Alpert Award in the Arts, along with ongoing major commissions and high-profile premieres around the world. The project has begun to reach new audiences through world premieres, acclaimed recordings, and high-profile festival appearances.

Upcoming engagements include a UK premiere at the Edinburgh International Festival in August 2025, hosted at the Royal Lyceum Theatre in Edinburgh, followed by a US premiere of The Monkey King at the San Francisco Opera in November 2025. In 2025, look for the release of Huang Ruo: Book of Mountains and Seas on Naxos, and a world-premiere recording for An American Soldier distributed digitally via Platoon (ACO).
