Brett James was a renowned country musician and songwriter known for his influence on contemporary country and the New Traditionalist movement. A prolific writer, he earned the Grammy for Best Country Song in 2007 for co-writing Jesus, Take the Wheel for Carrie Underwood. James was named ASCAP Songwriter of the Year in 2006 and 2010 and was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2020. His solo recordings include a self-titled album released in 1995 and the 2020 EP I Am Now. In 2024–25, he delivered a notable live collaboration, the Bluebird at the Symphony with the Nashville Symphony. Fans remember his enduring contributions to Nashville’s songwriting community and his distinctive voice in country music.
