Biographical note: Joseph Brodsky ( Nobel Prize in Literature, 1987) provides the poetic backbone, while Mikhail Baryshnikov—an acclaimed dancer and actor, honored with the Kennedy Center Honors in 2000—brings a distinctive stage presence to the piece. The direction by Alvis Hermanis situates the performance within a stark, intimate theatrical frame, enhancing the lyrical intensity of Brodsky’s verse. The show, produced in collaboration with Baryshnikov Arts Center (BAC), has toured major stages including the US premiere at BAC in New York City (March 9–19, 2016), the London premiere at the Apollo Theatre (May 2017), and subsequent engagements in Toronto and Chicago in 2018.
