Broue is one of Canada’s most storied stage comedies, born in Montreal and woven into the fabric of Quebec theatre history. Created by Claude Meunier, Jean-Pierre Plante, Francine Ruel and Louis Saia, Broue premiered on March 21, 1979, with music composed for the show by Robert Marien. The production achieved a record-breaking run and remains a benchmark for long-running theatre in Canada.

As a show with enduring legacy, Broue’s original trio — Michel Côté, Marcel Gauthier, and Marc Messier — defined an era of Quebec humour and theatre. In 1995 Broue was inducted into the Masques (Quebec theatre) Hall of Fame, cementing its place in Canadian cultural history. In 2019, a new administration led by Benoît Brière, Luc Guérin, and Martin Drainville revived Broue for contemporary tours, bringing the beloved characters back to stages across North America.
