Cap'n Jazz, formed in 1989 in Buffalo Grove, Illinois, is renowned for its ferocious energy, intricate guitar textures, and emotive vocals. The band launched the careers of Tim Kinsella and Mike Kinsella, later featuring Victor Villarreal, Sam Zurick, and Davey von Bohlen. Though their original full-length studio output was concise, their influence on indie and emo scenes remains substantial. The 1995 album Burritos, Inspiration Point, Fork Balloon Sports, Cards in the Spokes, Automatic Biographies, Kites, Kung Fu, Trophies, Banana Peels We've Slipped On, and Egg Shells We've Tippy Toed Over (Shmap'n Shmazz) is a pivotal release for fans and newcomers alike. In 1998, Analphabetapolothology offered a comprehensive double-disc retrospective, compiling nearly all Cap'n Jazz recordings with rare tracks.
