Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1960, Carlos Malta is a renowned Brazilian wind virtuoso whose career spans over four decades. A multi-instrumentalist specializing in saxophones, flutes, and other winds, Malta has been active since 1977 and is celebrated for weaving jazz with Brazilian rhythms and expansive wind textures. His early trajectory was shaped by a formative stint with Hermeto Pascoal e Grupo, where he contributed from 1981 for 12 years, helping to define a distinctive sound that blends improvisation with Brazilian musicality.
