People behind the production
Castanets is the musical project created by songwriter and musician Raymond Raposa (1981–2022). Known for its evolving lineup and intimate, painterly arrangements, Castanets carved a distinctive space in indie folk and experimental music. Cathedral (2004) brought widespread recognition when Pitchfork named it Best New Music, helping establish Castanets as a standout voice in the scene. After years of collaboration with a rotating cast of contributors, the project released Bond Wire Cur in 2022, a collaboration with Raymond Byron on ESP-DISK, marking the final studio work before Raposa's passing in July 2022. With Raposa’s passing, touring activity has been sparse, and there are no confirmed 2025 Castanets tour dates. Official presence remains primarily through Asthmatic Kitty’s Castanets artist page, with activity paused since 2022. Here, you’ll find a respectful overview of the artist’s life, key releases, and what to know about potential shows in the future.
