Since 1947, the Central Kentucky Youth Orchestra (CKYO) has been a cornerstone of young musical talent in Lexington, Kentucky. As one of the oldest independently chartered youth orchestras in the United States, CKYO nurtures musicians across multiple ensembles and programs, providing a rigorous, welcoming environment where students can grow as performers, collaborators, and community members. With six orchestras—including Symphony, Concert, Repertory, Bravo Strings, Jazz Arts, and Jazz Repertory—plus a Percussion Ensemble and community outreach programs (MusicWorks and Friends in Music), CKYO offers a diverse range of opportunities for aspiring artists at every level. The organization conducts mainstage concerts at the Singletary Center for the Arts and frequently commissions new works and hosts competitions that spotlight young talent.
