Chalk and Soot is a compelling evening-length dance-theatre work created by choreographer John Heginbotham, with music by Brooklyn Rider and vocalists Shara Worden and Gabriel Kahane. Rooted in Kandinsky’s Sounds (Klänge) texts, the piece blends movement, music, and spoken word into a immersive performance. It premiered in Chapel Hill in 2012 and later gained acclaim with a 2014 Jacob’s Pillow premiere, earning praise from major outlets and performing at Lincoln Center as part of Summer for the City.
