Chamber Music Northwest (CMNW) is Portland’s home for intimate, transformative chamber music experiences. Founded in 1971 by violinist Sergiu Luca, CMNW combines a summer festival, year-round concerts, and robust education programs to foster both audience and artists. Based in Portland, Oregon, CMNW brings together world-class performers, rising Protégé alumni, and community engagement initiatives to create a vibrant musical landscape for all ages.

Under the artistic direction of Soovin Kim (violin) and Gloria Chien (piano) since 2020, CMNW continues a tradition of artistic excellence and generous outreach. The duo previously led the Lake Champlain Chamber Music Festival and were honored by the Lincoln Center Chamber Music Society in 2021 for extraordinary service to the art form. Their leadership shapes CMNW’s mission to explore repertoire with depth, clarity, and accessibility.

CMNW’s Summer Festival is a highlight each year, featuring performances in Reed College’s Kaul Auditorium and Portland State University’s Lincoln Hall, with occasional events at The Old Church and First Baptist Church, among other venues. The festival and year-round series showcase Bach-inspired works, world premieres, and a broad roster of international artists.

Beyond concerts, CMNW runs the Protégé Project, launched in 2010 to mentor and develop rising chamber musicians. Protégé alumni frequently appear in mainstage and New@Night programs, enriching CMNW’s programming with fresh voices and collaborations. The organization also offers free concerts, masterclasses, and open rehearsals, continuing the tradition of accessible music education and community engagement.

Looking ahead, the 2025/26 Season promises a compelling lineup with the Brentano Quartet, Edgar Meyer with Tessa Lark and Joshua Roman, Fleur Barron, Steven Banks, Soovin Kim, Gloria Chien, Ieva Jokūbavičiūtė, Xak Bjerken, and WindSync/BodyVox collaborations. And the 2025 Summer Festival runs June 28–July 27, 2025, with the theme Echoes of Bach Inspiring Through Time, featuring Bach-inspired works, world premieres, and a large roster of international artists.
