The Charleston Blues Festival began as a one-day tribute to the vibrant blues scene in Charleston, South Carolina. Debuted on February 13, 2010 at the Charleston Music Hall, the event was created in conjunction with the Lowcountry Blues Bash and featured an acclaimed lineup including Shemekia Copeland, Zac Harmon, Billy Gibson, and Dan Wright & The New Beat. While the festival itself did not continue as an annual event through 2025–2026, Charleston’s blues culture remains strong thanks to ongoing events like the Lowcountry Blues Bash and a variety of blues and roots performances across the Lowcountry. This page highlights the festival’s origin, key figures, and how Charleston continues to be a hotspot for blues music.
