The Charleston Symphony Youth Orchestra (CSYO) is a dynamic, CSO-affiliated program designed to foster young orchestral talent in the Charleston area. Since its acquisition by the Charleston Symphony Orchestra (CSO) in 2018, CSYO has operated under the CSO’s Education & Community Engagement umbrella, growing its reach and impact through the CSYO and CSYS programs. Guided by dedicated conductors and a commitment to high musical standards, CSYO prepares students for professional-level performance while maintaining accessibility for families and schools in the Charleston region.

CSYO rehearsals take place Sundays from 4:00–6:30 pm at the Allegro Charter School of Music (4542 Bixby Ln, North Charleston, SC 29405). Auditions for the 2025–26 season are open to returning students on May 11 and new students on May 17, with a the best available price application fee and an online application process. The ensemble is actively pursuing new performance opportunities, including collaborations with the CSO Masterworks and high-profile venues as part of their ongoing artistic development.

Notable milestones for CSYO include a landmark Carnegie Hall debut on February 26, 2025, performed on a program with the College of Charleston Orchestra and the CSO. The program featured Charleston Mix (a world premiere by Thomas Cabaniss) and other Charleston works such as Charlestonia, Sibelius Finlandia, Corsaro, Subwaves, and A Charleston Concerto. In the 2025–26 season, CSYO aims to expand to a Boston Tour and to perform on the CSO Masterworks stage at prominent venues, underscoring its role as a premier training ground for young musicians in the region.
