Chicago Afrobeat Project formed in 2002 in Chicago, evolving from a loft jam into a touring Afrobeat collective featuring 7–14+ members. They became the first American Afrobeat band to release a full-length studio record with Tony Allen on every track with their 2017 release What Goes Up. The group blends Afrobeat with Chicago house, funk, jazz, hip-hop, and more, delivering high-energy live shows that often incorporate dancers from Muntu Dance Theatre. Over the years, they’ve earned multiple Chicago Music Awards recognitions and a Best African Entertainer award in 2013. While 2025 tour dates aren’t publicly listed, fans can follow their releases and past tours for a sense of when they’ll reemerge on the road.
