The Chicago Philharmonic Orchestra is a dynamic, musician-governed ensemble founded in 1989 by principal musicians from the Lyric Opera Orchestra. With roughly 200 performing members, this independent orchestra thrives on collaborative artistry and community engagement. Since 2013, Artistic Director and Principal Conductor Scott Speck has steered the ensemble, earning recognition such as the Illinois Council of Orchestras Conductor of the Year in 2021. The Chicago Philharmonic Orchestra is the official orchestra of the Joffrey Ballet since 2012, a long-time partner of the Ravinia Festival, and a resident company at the Harris Theater in Chicago. These relationships place the orchestra at the heart of Chicago’s cultural scene, delivering ambitious programming and accessible performances for all ages.
